From Open Siddur Project Development Wiki
My first encounter with this wiki. I suggest that we have two rather different audiences here: casual user or contributor; second: developer. It would be useful to distinguish pages so that the casual user doesn't go under water with the techy stuff. Oz
Got any suggestions on how to separate it? --Efraim.feinstein 01:41, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Old stuff
Things I've cut from the main page, because they're distracting from the big picture:
This project requires a lot of work, and a lot of different tasks, requiring a large number of skill sets, including:
- Documentation Writing requires working with developers and users to write technical documentation.
- Scanning documents requires access to public domain books and a high speed scanner (usually in a library).
- Transcription requires the ability to type in Hebrew accurately with vowels.
- Proofreading/Reconciliation is the process of reconciling multiply-keyed transcriptions with a single source text to produce a more accurate final copy.
- Encoding is the process of marking up a text in JLPTEI XML.
- Translation involves translating portions of the texts into other languages (English will likely be the first one!)
- Translation encoding involves encoding translations in JLPTEI XML and linking them to their original texts.
- Instruction Writing involves writing (and sourcing) instructions in accordance with various customs.
- Commentary/Essay Writing involves writing original commentaries about prayer or sections of the siddur.
